Visit California, the California Ski Industry Association (Ski California), California Highway Patrol (CHP), California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) encourage the use of the following resources to help visitors safely plan their upcoming snow adventures:
Caltrans QuickMap (quickmap.dot.ca.gov)
The Caltrans QuickMap web page displays real-time traffic information layered on a Google Map. The information includes traffic speed, lane and road closures due to construction and maintenance activities, incident reports, Changeable Message Sign (CMS) content, camera snapshots, and active chain control requirements.
CHP and Caltrans Social Media
CHP and Caltrans provide real-time updates and need-to-know information on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and Instagram. Follow and stay updated via your favorite social media channels before planning a trip.
Caltrans: Facebook, X (@CalTransHQ) and Instagram (@officialcaltranshq)
CHP: Facebook, X (@CHPAlerts) and Instagram (@chpalerts)
Ski California Mountain Safety Guide (skicalifornia.org/ski-safety/)
Ski California and its member resorts in California and Nevada created the Mountain Safety Guide to educate travelers on how to ski and snowboard responsibly and safely while having a fun experience. The guide includes tips and educational materials for safety on and off the slopes during ski season.
Parking Reservation Systems
Many California resorts, including Palisades Tahoe and Alpine Meadows, have developed new parking reservation systems to help elevate the overall visitor experience while alleviating traffic congestion and mitigating other traffic-related challenges. Check with your destination for parking reservation options before venturing out.
With more than 30 ski resorts throughout the state, California is the ultimate winter playground, offering endless opportunities to experience downhill, cross-country and backcountry adventures.
By planning ahead, travelers can better anticipate the challenges of winter weather and ensure themselves a safe, enjoyable journey.
