By The Sea Opens in Coronado

By The Sea, Coronado’s newest restaurant created by Doug and Lara Hamm, the husband-and-wife team behind Black Swan Hospitality, opened August 12. Overlooking Orange Ave and steps from the shore, By The Sea encapsulates the essence of the Mediterranean, drawing on the Hamms' travels through the French Riviera, Greek Isles and Amalfi Coast to bring the luxury and serenity of their vacations abroad to their hometown. Designed by TECTURE, the 6,500-square-foot space unfolds from an indoor lounge and bar into a skylit dining room and eucalyptus-shaded outdoor patio, with shell-inspired hues, white oak, imported limestone, rattan fixtures and velvet upholstery. The menu invites guests on a cruise around the Italian Coast and Greek Isles, sourced from San Diego's leading farmers and fishermen, while the beverage program features house-made syrups, fresh-squeezed juices, seasonal cocktails and a wine list highlighting small, family-run, sustainable producers alongside iconic Champagne houses.
