Including both influencers and traditional journalists from key media outlets, the “Gold Rush Rally” attendees were invited to help draw global attention to the special part of the state -- comprised of 10 counties -- known as California Gold Country and the fascinating 170-year-old Gold Rush history that can be found throughout the region along the historic Highway 49.
“California’s abundance makes it the best place in the world for road tripping -- and the state’s rich heritage tracing back to the Gold Rush and Highway 49 has captured generations of imaginations,” said Caroline Beteta, Visit California president and CEO. “The Gold Rush Rally will showcase the natural beauty, culinary excellence, historical charm and outdoor adventures that today’s pioneers can encounter on a journey through California Gold Country.”
The Gold Rush Rally will kick off at the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento May 5, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad. The participants will then embark on seven itineraries, each highlighting types of experiences travelers can enjoy along Highway 49, concluding at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys May 10.
May is California Tourism Month -- and May 5-11 is National Travel & Tourism Week -- when the nation’s travel industry touts its place as a vital cornerstone of the economy. Programs such as the Gold Rush Rally keep California - and its historic gems such as Gold Country - top of mind for potential visitors.
