Statement on Visiting Yosemite National Park This Summer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (April 3, 2025) – Visit California President & CEO Caroline Beteta today issued the following statement on visiting Yosemite National Park this summer:

“Travelers visiting Yosemite National Park this summer will experience the epic beauty and iconic landscapes that draw people from around the world.

“While unfortunate, recent park service layoffs have impacted less than 2% of Yosemite’s peak-season workforce. Most guest services in the park are staffed by the concessionaire, Yosemite Hospitality, which has not been impacted by these actions. That means lodging, restaurants, retail, the free shuttle system and tram tours, and activities visitors enjoy, such as bike rentals, rafting and mountaineering school are all operating as usual.

“There is currently no reservation system in place for summer 2025, allowing access to visitors near and far. Like many of our nation’s natural gems, Yosemite can face overcrowding during peak summer weekends. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, or stay late, visit during the week, use YARTS public transit and the Yosemite Valley Shuttle system, and spread their visit out beyond the Valley Floor.

“Yosemite National Park spans nearly 760,000 pristine acres across three counties and the Valley Floor is just 5 percent of that. Visitors can also experience sites like Hetch Hetchy, Tuolumne Meadows and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias; hike more than 750 miles of trail; and discover the outdoor thrills, family-friendly activities and culinary scenes of the many gateway towns just outside the park.

“Planning ahead helps ensure a smooth experience, plan now and enjoy the beauty of Yosemite National Park this summer.”
