Bigfoot Jamboree

Happy Camp | August 2020

The notoriously camera-shy creature known as Bigfoot has been getting an annual party thrown in its honor in the small Northern California town of Happy Camp since 1966.

Happy Camp is along the banks of the Klamath River, deep in the heart of the Klamath National Forest — prime Bigfoot territory — but Sasquatch has been a no-show at the festivities thus far (not counting various human-made facsimiles).

It’s not for the lack of Happy Campers putting on a charming, family-friendly festival every Labor Day weekend, though; the Bigfoot Jamboree features Americana staples like a parade, softball tournament and a pancake breakfast, as well as a salmon barbecue, talent show, karaoke, 5-kilometer run, and music from live bands and DJs. And of course, the crowning of the festival’s Bigfoot Queen is a moment not to be missed.
