Going “beyond the gateways” is a major feature of California Road Trips.
One of several highlights in this year’s guide is “Ventura, Santa Barbara & Beyond,” a 180-mile journey up the Pacific Coast that begins in Los Angeles and ends at a vineyard in San Luis Obispo County. The trip includes lively urban scenes in Santa Monica and Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone and the natural beauty of Malibu, such as where the Santa Monica Mountains plunge to the edge of the continent.
“Call of the Coast” starts south of San Francisco and takes travelers along some of the most beautiful stretches of Highway 1, including eight recommended stops between Santa Cruz and Big Sur.
The “Architecture Tour” starts in Los Angeles and winds its way east through the Inland Empire and Palm Springs before curling around to San Diego.
“Undiscovered Wine Regions” ranges from Escondido and Temecula in the southern part of the state through the Central Valley and ending up in Sutter Creek, one hour south of Sacramento.
Additional itineraries featured in California Road Trips include:
- Two family-focused trips: “Family Learning Adventure” and “Between the Theme Parks”
- “Hidden Beaches,” an insider’s guide to eight secluded, soulful beaches along the scenic North Coast
- “Amazing Views,” a trek that features jaw-dropping vistas, snow-capped volcanoes, and towering waterfalls
California Road Trips will be distributed with the July 2018 issue of Travel + Leisure magazine — an adventure-themed issue — and single copies are also available at California Welcome Centers, select newsstands, and online at VisitCalifornia.com/cvg.
